Holguin received the members of the XXXIII contingent of the Caravan Pastors for Peace and its leader Gail Walker. They were recognized with the top decorations of the province.
After their arrival to Holguin at Frank Pais International Airport, where they were received by the delegation of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP for its Spanish acronym), religious leaders and other authorities of the territory. The members of this group were greeted at the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto García Íñiguez, where the official welcoming ceremony was held.
In the ceremony, Gail Walker was conferred the Coat of Arms of the Province and the Caravan of Pastors for Peace the conferred (Holguín Axe), in recognition for the more than 30 years of love, solidarity and accompaniment to the people of Cuba and their struggle to break the blockade of the United States against our country.
Both awards were presented by Arelis Guerrero Guerrero and Yunia Pérez Hernández, member of the Central Committee and the Party Bureau in Holguín, and Vice Governor, respectively, who recalled the bonds of friendship and respect that were established between Lucius Walker and the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, which are maintained and fructify.
Gail Walker, executive director of the International Foundation and Community Organization, expressed that Cuba is not alone and the proof is the solidarity of millions in the world and, specifically, of the 30 caravanists that today are in Holguin defying the measures of the North American government.
On this occasion the group brought with them two tons of aid for the Cuban people, mostly medicines and medical supplies that will be distributed through different health institutions.
As part of their stay in Holguin, the caravanists will carry out an extensive program of activities in Gibara.
Starting July 19th, the Pastors for Peace caravanists will carry out an extensive program of activities in the provinces of Guantánamo, Granma and Santiago de Cuba, which includes a meeting with combatants of the border troops in Guantánamo, tributes to Fidel Castro, José Martí, Mariana Grajales and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes; visits to scenarios related to the assaults to the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, as well as their participation in the central national act for the 70th anniversary of the historical epic.
They will also make a walk to the La Plata Commandery, in the Sierra Maestra and will hold meetings with authorities and representatives of several sectors of the society, to return to their country through Holguin, where they will be sent off with the gratitude and cordiality they deserve.
