At a press conference, Dr. Yosvany Anache Columbié, Deputy Provincial Director of Hygiene and Epidemiology, confirmed the closing of this outbreak, which resulted in the infection of 12 people in that area.
In addition, Dr. Anache stressed that "there are neither new infections in Holguín province, nor that any information is being withheld". He explained that "at the moment only four cases remain hospitalized: an 89 year-old patient from Las Tunas, a patient who re-admitted after testing positive for his second PCR after his discharge from the clinic, and two suspected patients awaiting the results".
Anache also revealed that next Tuesday he will begin the second stage of the population study, carried out in cycles of 21 days on 309 patients from 23 clinics in the municipalities of Gibara, Cueto, Sagua de Tánamo, Moa and the provincial capital city. Dr. Anache explained that this study allows identify asymptomatic carriers of the disease, who are also capable of transmitting it.
The province of Holguín has reached the 24-day mark of reporting its last infection by COVID-19, last May 5, and maintains the accumulated number of 92 positive cases.
