Salvador Rodriguez Velazquez, a resident of the neighborhood Los Lirios in Alcides Pino district, in the provincial capital city, debuted with respiratory symptoms on April 15; thereforte, was admitted at Lucia Iñiguez hospital. There, he was performed a real-time PCR test which resulted positive. Then, was transferred to the Military Hospital, where confirmed patients to the novel coronavirus are treated.
The health staffers there fought for his life for 27 days due to risk factors, such as Diabetes Mellitus Type II, cardiovascular and respiratory disease, among others. He spent several of those days in a serious condition.
Dr. Yoanne Graña Mir, an intensivist of the working group in charge of dealing with the pandemic in the hospital, told Radio Angulo Station, that Salvador has so far become the confirmed patient of COVID-19 with the largest stay in hospital, especially because of his disease disorders.
However today, his story is different thanks to the health personnel who daily face the Covid-19 in the province at all levels. He returned home grateful to all of them for havimg saved his life.
Holguin reports no confirmed cases since May fifth, and only two patients remain in the military hospital. One from the province of Las Tunas and the other one from the municipality of Gibara, of Holguin province. The latter tested positive in a follow-up test while he was discharged from the hospital and in home isolation. He will therefore remain in the centre for several days to receive further treatment and have the PCR done again.
The province accumulates 92 cases out of about 5,93 tests. 88.0 % contacts of confirmed cases and 6.5 % without specifying the source of infection. In total, 101 were recovered, including 88 people from Holguin province and 13 from Las Tunas province.
